ABOUT THE EDITOR

My name is Evan Foley, and my journey with sound began the old-school way — recording songs off the radio as a kid. That curiosity became a lifelong obsession with how sound interacts with emotion, memory, and meaning. Where others hear music, I see shape and color. Audio has always been more than sound to me — it’s architecture.

In 1999, I got my first laptop and sound editor, and I was hooked. I started editing tracks for family events and small parties, experimenting with the mechanics of audio and its effects on the brain. I’ve always been someone who has to take things apart to understand them — and music was no exception.

By 2006, I’d earned my bachelor’s in Audio, Radio, and Digital Media from SUNY Plattsburgh, and in 2008, I began working professionally as a wedding DJ. Since day one, custom audio edits have been an unspoken part of what I offer — adjusting timing, tailoring intros, cutting lyrics, extending emotional moments — whatever the couple needed to make the moment theirs.

Now, with modern tech and shared cloud platforms, I’m offering this service as a standalone offering. Whether you’re a bride, groom, or creative planner, I can edit your purchased track to match your vision — legally, intentionally, and with precision.

If you’re ready to hear your song the way it should sound on your big day — I’m at your service.

FAQ

Q: Is this legal?
Yes — and here’s why:

At no point does TuneTailor: download, host, localize or archive the music in any way except in terms of temporary memory… the same concept as being able to VIEW a YouTube video, but not obtain it.

This service operates under the same logic as hiring a seamstress to alter a suit you bought. You legally own the suit (in this case, a music file), and you are hiring someone to modify it for your own private use, not to distribute, sell, or monetize. You’re not violating copyright by doing something personal with a copy you own, as long as that use stays non-commercial and private.

U.S. copyright law allows “format-shifting” and “personal modification” as long as the original copy was legally obtained and the use remains private. TuneTailor does not download, distribute, or publicly share any music. It operates entirely within a client-driven framework.

Q: Why do I need to upload a file I already own?
By uploading to a shared cloud workspace (like Google Drive), you are not “transferring” ownership of the file to TuneTailor—you are granting temporary access for editing. This is key to keeping the service legal and respectful of copyright.

Q: Why can’t I just use a Spotify or YouTube link?
Because you don’t actually own those files. Streaming platforms give you access to play music, but not to download, modify, or redistribute it. In order for this service to remain compliant with copyright law, you need to provide a purchased audio file — MP3, WAV, FLAC, etc. — from a legitimate source like:
-iTunes
-Amazon Music
-Bandcamp
-7digital
-Qobuz

Q: Do you have a portfolio of work I can view?
We CAN NOT host any audio files on our site, or publish them to social media, YouTube or anywhere else. The key to our business model is that absolutely no intellectual work leaves the confines of the Google workspace, which is protected under inherent Google licensing.

Q: Why do I need to upload a file I already own?

Q: How much does it cost?
Our minimum denomination of time is $25 for 30 minutes. In the event the project takes longer, we will invoice for each additional 30 minutes. You may provide UP TO FOUR items for edit. Anything subsequent will be appended up to 4 per additional hour.

Q: What can I do with the edited file?
✅ Permitted Use:
-Play the edited song at your wedding or personal event as intended.
-Store it in your private collection.
-Use it in a slideshow or presentation for your own family or guests.
❌ Not Allowed:
-Uploading the edit to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc. without permission from the original copyright holder.
-Use the edit in a commercial, promotional, or monetized video.
-Sell, trade, or redistribute the edited file.
-Submit it to streaming platforms, wedding blogs, or media projects without licensing.

🎯 What Do Authorities Actually Care About in Music Copyright Enforcement?

🚨 What's Enforced
Authorities and industry watchdogs focus their resources on activities that threaten the commercial value of copyrighted music, like:

❌ Major Copyright Concerns:
-Unauthorized redistribution (e.g., file-sharing sites, torrents)
-Commercial unlicensed use (ads, monetized videos, public performances) -Selling bootleg or modified versions
-Streaming music on social media without licenses
-Sampling without clearance for commercial release

They don’t chase after individuals editing music for their own wedding or birthday party. That’s like the RIAA suing someone for shortening a lullaby to help their kid fall asleep — it’s not profitable or logical to enforce.

✅ Why This Doesn’t Apply to TuneTailor
Our service:
-Does NOT host or distribute copyrighted material of any kind
-Does NOT use music for commercial purposes of any kind
-Does not alter ownership or create derivative works for sale
-Edits the work in Google Drive, not localized to TuneTailor's machines - Google already has agreements with most music licensing entities.

Stays within a one-to-one, client-owned file usage model.

It's the digital equivalent of trimming the intro off a CD you bought, except someone else is doing it for you, temporarily.

🧵 Seamstress Analogy
Authorities don’t care if a seamstress shortens a dress you legally bought. But they will care if that seamstress starts:
-Selling copies of designer dresses without permission
-Letting people rent or resell bootleg versions
-Using the brand name without rights
That’s the same line we're staying far away from in music. You’re customizing legally owned content for private use in a single space amongst friends and family — not selling, uploading, or mass-sharing it.
We were considering the name SongSeamstress - the domain was just taken.
🎵 Who Are the Authorities?
-The U.S. Copyright Office (legal framework & registration)
-The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) (industry enforcer)
-Rights holders (record labels, artists, publishers)
-Occasionally, the FBI or DOJ, but only in large-scale commercial piracy
